we are here … in the place I love
After a grueling trip and tons of gratitude to my son, Zac, for making it all okay and as easy as possible, we are here in Puerto Morelos. My house, sweet as ever, looks great and a few touches of Christmas here and there remind me that it really is December and soon so many of my family will be here for the holiday! The zocolo is festive! A huge and, um, interesting plastic Christmas Tree in the park that is lit at night and a elaborate nativity scene is set up under the big palapa in the center of the park. It’s interesting to me, that even here, in a place where most people have never seen snow and have no concept of it, Christmas is associated with snow. The nativity scene, Jerusalem … with the babe and Kings and angels and shepherds and all that, are on a landscape draped in snow … the tiny houses have snow on the rooftops and the baby palms positioned here and there in pots have fake snow sprinkled on their fronds … I am baffled by it and I promise to take a camera with me when we walk into town the next time and get some shots of it all. At the beach it is nothing but summer and watching Zac swim in the turquoise water while Buddy dashed in and out is still making me smile.
